Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to common questions about working with R&D Teams
About Our Services
R&D Teams provides two core services: AI Agents & GenAI Systems, and AI Platform & MLOps Engineering.
For AI agents and GenAI, we build practical systems like document processing, retrieval-augmented assistants, customer service automation, and workflow agents. For AI platform and MLOps engineering, we build the infrastructure that gets models into production reliably: data and feature pipelines, model serving, monitoring, evaluation, and CI/CD for ML.
We handle everything from initial concept through deployment and ongoing support.
We primarily work with established businesses that have been operating for several years and have steady revenue. These companies typically have a clear understanding of their problems and the budget to solve them properly. We find this leads to better outcomes for everyone.
If you're an early-stage startup, we're happy to have a conversation, but we may recommend waiting until you have more clarity on your business model before investing in custom development.
Yes. Most of our clients have existing systems they need to keep running. We specialize in integrating new solutions with your current technology, whether that's connecting to your accounting software, syncing with your CRM, or working alongside legacy systems you can't replace yet.
During our discovery process, we map out all your existing tools and design solutions that work with what you have. Our goal is to improve your technology without disrupting your daily operations.
We work across multiple industries including manufacturing, professional services (legal, accounting, consulting), healthcare, retail, distribution, and construction. The common thread is businesses with 20-500 employees who have outgrown basic tools but aren't large enough to justify a full IT department.
We've found that the problems businesses face—streamlining operations, improving customer service, making better decisions with data—are similar across industries. Our experience in multiple sectors often helps us bring fresh perspectives to your challenges.
Yes. We offer several support options depending on your needs:
- Basic support: Bug fixes and minor updates for 90 days after launch
- Maintenance plans: Regular updates, security patches, and performance monitoring on a monthly retainer
- Full partnership: Ongoing development, priority support, and strategic technology planning
Most clients choose a maintenance plan because technology needs regular attention to stay secure and effective. We'll recommend the right level of support based on your project and budget.
Pricing & Investment
AI agent and GenAI projects typically range from $30,000 to $150,000, depending on complexity and scope:
- A document processing or retrieval-augmented assistant: $30,000-$50,000
- A customer service or workflow agent with multiple integrations: $50,000-$80,000
- Complex multi-agent systems or custom model work: $100,000-$150,000
These estimates include discovery, development, testing, deployment, and initial training. We provide detailed quotes after understanding your specific requirements—no guessing or hidden costs.
AI platform and MLOps engagements typically range from $40,000 to $200,000:
- A focused piece of work (model serving setup or a feature/data pipeline): $40,000-$70,000
- A production MLOps platform with CI/CD, monitoring, and evaluation: $80,000-$120,000
- Larger multi-team platforms with infrastructure-as-code and governance: $150,000-$200,000
These estimates include discovery, engineering, testing, deployment, and handover. We provide detailed quotes after understanding your specific requirements.
We offer both, and we'll recommend the right approach for your situation:
- Fixed-price works well for clearly defined projects where requirements are unlikely to change—you know exactly what you'll pay before we start.
- Hourly billing suits exploratory work, ongoing support, or projects where you want flexibility to adjust direction as you learn more.
About 70% of our projects use fixed pricing because most clients prefer cost certainty. We're transparent about our rates and provide detailed breakdowns regardless of billing model.
Working With Us
It starts with a 30-minute phone call where we learn about your business and what you're trying to accomplish. No pressure, no sales pitch—just a conversation to see if we can help.
If there's a potential fit, we schedule a deeper discovery session (usually 1-2 hours) to understand your current systems, pain points, and goals. After discovery, we provide a detailed proposal with scope, timeline, and pricing.
The consultation and proposal are free. You'll have everything you need to make an informed decision with no obligation to proceed.
We provide weekly status updates via email that summarize progress, upcoming work, and any decisions needed from you. For more complex projects, we hold brief video calls every 1-2 weeks.
You'll have direct phone and email access to your project lead—not a call center or ticketing system. We use plain language in all communications, avoiding technical jargon.
You'll never wonder what's happening with your project or struggle to reach someone who can help. We're based in the US and available during normal business hours.
After launch, we provide a transition period (typically 90 days) where we fix any issues that arise, make minor adjustments based on real-world use, and ensure everything runs smoothly.
We also conduct training sessions for your team so they're confident using the new system. You receive complete documentation including user guides, technical specifications, and all source code.
Everything we build belongs to you. When you're ready to continue independently or transition to another vendor, you have everything you need.
Most projects take 3-6 months from kickoff to launch. Smaller projects like a focused AI agent or a single MLOps pipeline can be completed in 8-12 weeks. Larger platform builds may take 6-9 months.
We build in phases so you see working software every 2-4 weeks, not just at the end. This approach lets you provide feedback early and ensures the final product matches your expectations.
We provide realistic timeline estimates upfront and keep you informed if anything changes.
Security & Trust
Data security is built into everything we do. We practice security-conscious engineering: encryption for data in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, audit logging, and secure coding practices. Our team is trained on data handling procedures.
We are not SOC 2 or HIPAA certified, but we will sign an NDA and complete your security questionnaires on request, and we work with your IT team to meet your specific requirements. We conduct security testing before launch and can arrange third-party security audits if required.
Our team members hold relevant cloud certifications, including AWS and Google Cloud, and we maintain expertise in security best practices.
We are not SOC 2 or HIPAA certified, and we do not claim to be. We practice security-conscious engineering—encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access, and audit logging—and we will sign an NDA and complete your security questionnaires on request.
If you have specific compliance requirements for vendor approval, let us know and we'll be candid about what we can and cannot support.
Yes. We're happy to connect you with clients who have completed similar projects. We maintain relationships with past clients specifically because we're proud of our work and want you to feel confident in your decision.
During the proposal stage, just let us know the type of project you're considering and we'll arrange a reference call. Most prospective clients find these conversations helpful for understanding what it's really like to work with us—the good and the challenges.
Our phased approach is designed to prevent this. You see working software every 2-4 weeks, so there's ample opportunity to course-correct before you've invested significant time and money.
If at any checkpoint you're not satisfied, we stop, discuss what's not working, and adjust our approach. For fixed-price projects, our contracts include clear acceptance criteria so there's no ambiguity about what "done" looks like.
We've never had a project fail to launch, but if we couldn't meet agreed-upon requirements, we would refund the relevant portion.
All custom code, designs, and documentation we create for your project belong to you. This is standard in our contracts. You receive full source code and can use, modify, or transfer it however you choose.
We don't use your project code elsewhere or retain ownership of anything we build specifically for you. The only exception is if we use existing open-source libraries or our own pre-built frameworks—those remain under their original licenses, but you receive full rights to use them in your project.
