The Transcribe Anything window: a sidebar of five transcribed recordings, and the transcript of a customer interview shown as paragraphs below its waveform and play button.

Read and listen

Click any line to hear it.

Read a transcript as paragraphs, or as timestamped segments. Click a time and that moment plays, so you can check a quote against the recording.

Every file gets a waveform and playback.

A lecture transcript in Segments view: each line has its timestamp, the line being played is highlighted, and the waveform above shows the playback position.

On-device engines

Three engines. 100 languages.

Switch engines from the toolbar. All three run on your Mac.

  • Apple Speech is built into macOS 26 and later. The fastest, with the lowest memory use.
  • Whisper large-v3-turbo (recommended) covers 100 languages, including English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese and Chinese. It detects the language automatically and runs on the GPU through Metal.
  • Cohere Transcribe is the most accurate for English and 13 other languages (no Russian).

On an M1 Pro, an hour of audio takes under 2 minutes with Apple Speech and under 7 minutes with Whisper.

The speech engine menu open from the toolbar, listing Apple Speech, Whisper large-v3-turbo (selected, marked Recommended) and Cohere Transcribe, each marked Ready, with the language set to Auto-detect.

Links

Paste a link. Get the transcript.

Paste a link to an online video. If the site has captions, they are used in seconds. If not, only the sound is streamed, transcribed and deleted.

Media is never saved, played or exported. Only the text is kept.

The Transcribe from a link panel: a video address pasted in, Captions set to captions first, then the audio, and a note that audio is streamed, transcribed on the Mac and discarded.

Batch

Drop a whole folder.

Drop files or whole folders onto the window: MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP4, MOV, or anything else macOS can play.

They queue up and run one after another.

A recording being transcribed at 59 percent with Whisper, with a progress bar and time left, while two more files wait in the sidebar queue.

Export

Export to text or subtitles.

Save as Plain Text, Markdown, JSON, SubRip (.srt) or WebVTT (.vtt). Subtitles are split into readable two-line cues.

Copy a transcript with one shortcut, or export every transcript into a folder at once.

The Export menu open from the toolbar, with Plain Text, Markdown and JSON under Documents, and SubRip (.srt) and WebVTT (.vtt) under Subtitles.
